Acer Liquid e Review
In brief
A high-end mobile phone with a large touchscreen and an array of features, the Acer Liquid e is a smart way to communicate.
Look and Feel
The Acer Liquid e feels solid and its weight (135g) ensures it feels comfortable in the palm of your hand as you make a call or write an email. The handset weighs the same as the
iPhone and is a similar size.
Just like its predecessor, the Liquid e has a 3.5 inch touch-sensitive screen which dominates most of the phone’s front. Below the screen are the quick-access buttons for home, search, back and menu which are all backlit although only when you press them – which makes it a little tricky to press the right one in a darkened environment. The screen itself uses capacitive technology and is responsive, quick and colourful.
As an Android phone, the Acer Liquid e comes with a number of
Google apps pre-installed. You also have access to the Android Market and can download any others you like including games and software updates. The inbuilt accelerometer means the screen will automatically turn to landscape view as you turn the handset – the QWERTY keyboard in this mode is a really good size and finger-friendly.
The Liquid e comes with an additional 2 home screens, compared to the original
Acer Liquid phone. So you are not restricted in terms of apps and features, with the option to download many more to add to the pre-loaded ones. You scroll through the icons vertically and to access them you simply drag the home symbol up from the bottom of your screen.
Special features
You can use the Acer Liquid e phone for business or social reasons thanks to its fast internal processor (768MHz Snapdragon) which keeps features moving and the 3G/Wi-Fi connections which provide you with reliable access to the internet. Regardless of whether you are sending and receiving documents via email, reading said documents using the Document viewer, or chatting to friends on Twitter and Facebook – the experience is enjoyable.
There is a quick contacts option on the Liquid e which lets you alternate between your contacts and the various social networking apps. If you enjoy social networking on the move, the Acer UI has some fun features too including the UrFooz for creating a virtual version of yourself for posting online and Acer Spinlets for streaming music and posting songs to your favourite sites.
You can enjoy media on your Acer Liquid e. There is a music player and a 3.5mm audio jack, although unfortunately no radio. The 5-megapixel camera lets you take decent photos and label them using the GPS-based geo-tagging function. Sharing images is easy on the phone with options to upload online or via Bluetooth or USB connections – or you can simply expand the internal memory using a microSD card and store the pictures on the phone. Your saved images can be viewed as thumbnails which you click on to enlarge, like on the
iPhone 3G S.
There are many improvements on the Liquid e compared to its predecessor. The mobile phone has an updated Android browser which lets you double tap to zoom and supports live wallpapers. There is also an extended dictionary for better predictive input. The size, processor and features like the camera remain the same so if you like the original Liquid, you will appreciate the Liquid e.
