User interface
The Google Nexus One features a 3.7 AMOLED capacitive touch screen. The phone does not come with a keypad. It is strictly a touch screen device. This screen has multi-touch input method, accelerometer sensor, touch sensitive controls and proximity sensor. Below the screen, users can find a trackball that can be used for navigation.
When it comes to the home screen, the phone has five screen panes. Users can get more alternative home screen at the Android Market. Mobile phone users can find “virtual buttons” at the bottom part of the screen. With just one tap, the icons will automatically zoom in and out of the screen. Users also have the option of filling in the home screen with their preferred shortcut icons, folders and widgets for the applications.
What’s interesting with this smartphone is its live folders feature. Through this feature, the phone automatically fills the folder with all related contents. For instance, one folder can have all the information, updates, tweets, etc of a certain contact or it can have all the necessary information regarding all restaurants within a given location. The phone already has default Live folders, the Facebook contacts, All contacts, Bluetooth received, Starred contacts and Contacts with phone numbers.
The phone also has live wallpapers. Although these wallpapers do not contribute to the functionality of the phone, they display excellent effects like water ripples, polar clocks and shooting colored cubes.
Other Features
The Google Nexus One comes with a 5-megapixel camera. It has autofocus, LED flash, smile detection and geo-tagging features. It has image resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels and this camera can serve as a video recorder and it can capture videos at 20 frames per second.
This smartphone has 512 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM. This can be expanded when microSD cards are placed into the card slot of the phone. The expanded memory can go as large as 32 GB.
Connections
Google Nexus One runs the Android v2.1 operating system on a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Users can download more applications for this smartphone through the Android market. Most of these applications are free so users need not worry about emptying their pockets.
Fast downloading is possible for this phone since it can connect to the internet. The phone has Class 10 GPRS and EDGE. These two technologies allow connectivity with other mobile device through cellular networks. There’s also the 3G HSDPA/HSUPA for internet connection. In areas with hotspots and internet ready connections, the users can use the WLAN WiFi technology of the phone. The device also has the Bluetooth technology. This is useful for connecting with other compatible devices. While Bluetooth is for wireless, the microUSB caters to cabled connections.
