LG GT540 Review

In brief
Regardless of your budget, the LG GT540 is a fashionable smartphone which will keep you connected effortlessly.

Look and Feel
The LG GT540 is a curvy handset available in a black, white or pink exterior. The metal-like trim around the sides of the phone adds to its rounded nature. The exact size of the phone is unknown yet but it feels palm-friendly, sitting nicely in one hand for quick and easy use. It is also small enough to be transported in your pocket or handbag hassle-free.

The 3 inch touch-sensitive screen is resistive, like the HTC Smart phone. You are still able to enjoy all the LG GT540 has to offer, it just means you need to press fairly firmly to open a widget or click on a web link – unlike the brush strokes needed on capacitive screens like the iPhone 3G S or HTC Hero.

The display on the LG GT540 is clear and bright with each icon defined. LG’s second Android phone – following the GW620 – there are the familiar seven home screens available for you to scroll between and personalise with widgets that you like. As this smartphone is all about social networking, you are spoilt for choice with widgets as there is integration with Twitter, Bebo and Facebook. Every time your friends tweet or make an update, these appear on your screen, making it easier for you to reply and engage.

Special features
Your LG GT540 may be an affordable smartphone with less capability of other mobiles on the market, but you are still unlikely to lose track of your world – quite literally. There is GPS ability on the phone as well as Google Maps so you can establish the fastest route to reach your destination and check the map to monitor your journey.  These are handy features on a mobile phone as it lets you just take your phone with you without the need for a separate GPS device.

Accessing the internet on the LG GT540 is swift due to the 3G connection, and the high resolution of the screen enhances your viewing pleasure. You can also contact people via email and thanks to the document viewer, open any attached Office documents.

Another appealing feature of the LG GT540 is its Motion UI Player. This means that when you are listening to music and want to change the track, all you need to do is shake the phone. The technology enables the phone to understand what each shake means and react accordingly. There is also an FM radio inbuilt on the GT540 so you can check your local or national favourite on the move.

Further details on the LG GT540 will be added to this review soon.
