Motorola QUENCH Review
In brief
If you want mobile communication that is fast, responsive and colourful, the Motorola QUENCH offers you all this and more.
Look and Feel
The Motorola QUENCH is nicely rounded and as slim as the
iPhone. The 3.1 inch touch-sensitive screen takes up most of the space on the front of the phone although there is a fairly sizeable touchpad and four keys beneath it. These keys and pad offer you shortcuts to various commands and are good for a change of pace from swiping your finger across the screen – especially good if you want to limit the number of finger prints on the screen.
Speaking of finger prints, if this is a concern for you you’ll like the removable battery cover that the Motorola QUENCH sports. Patterned for a non-slip hold, the surface also does not attract marks like some shiny phone cases.
Although the screen on the QUENCH is relatively small, the capacitive technology and high resolution compensate for this. You can lightly press or swipe and the screen responds to your commands. When it comes to writing messages, you can experience Swype text which lets you swipe your finger across the relevant letters to spell words rather than press the letters individually. Once you’ve done this a few times, it’s pretty easy.
Special features
Like the
Motorola DEXT, the Motorola QUENCH is run on the Android 1.5 OS and is powered by a 528MHz internal processor. The handset comes with various
Google apps like Google Search, Gmail, Google Talk and YouTube, and the processor lets you enjoy these without slowing the interaction down. Unlike the DEXT, there is no physical keyboard on the phone but the on-screen keyboard is QWERTY and the Swype function allows for swift typing after a bit of practice.
On top of the OS is the Motoblur interface. This UI is friendly and links all your social networking accounts and messages so you can keep track of updates by looking at the one widget. As well as having direct access to the likes of Twitter and Facebook on the
Motorola QUENCH – with the option to download more from the Android Market – you can see your friends’ messages in one place or even view them per contact.
In terms of communication, the QUENCH also supports threaded SMS so text messages are displayed in a conversation style; MMS so you can send pictures and media with your text messages; push email so you know when you receive emails; and instant messaging. There are dual microphones and noise cancellation technology for enhanced call experiences too.
For entertainment, you have a good music player and FM radio onboard, and a 5-megapixel camera. You can listen to your music or preferred radio station out loud on the phone’s speakers or in private using a pair of earphones. The music player is like many of the features found on the Motorola QUENCH: interactive. Cover art is shown and you can create your own playlists or sort your collection according to artist, album or song, as well as listen in shuffle mode.
For a fun and friendly phone which lets you enjoy social networking with ease including sharing photos and videos online, the Motorola QUENCH meets your needs.
