Sagem Puma Phone Initial Review
In brief
A mobile phone which offers apps for fitness together with apps for communication, the Sagem Puma Phone offers more than straightforward connection.
Look and Feel
Compact, albeit a little thicker than the
iPhone, the Sagem Puma Phone looks and is sporty. The curved nature of the phone ensures it is comfortable to hold and use, as well as pop into your pocket or bag so you can measure how far you walk and listen to your music collection as you do so.
The front of the Sagem Puma is dominated by the 2.8 inch touch-sensitive screen with three touch-sensitive keys beneath for making/ending calls and launching the menu. On the reverse is actually a solar panel which means you can keep your phone powered on the move – the panel converts the sun’s natural energy and turns it into battery power. You can monitor how much power this generates as the phone has a counter with how many sun-fuelled messages you have clocked.
Being a smartphone, the Sagem Puma Phone has an inbuilt accelerometer which automatically rotates the screen from portrait to landscape when you physically turn the phone. The letters of the virtual keyboard are big and typing is easy and quick as a result – supported by the responsiveness of the screen, which is good considering the fun elements of the interface like the fact you press the lower corner of the home screen and swipe upwards to reveal the menu, as though lifting the edge of a piece of paper.
Special features
The Sagem Puma Phone comes with features for communication, entertainment and sport. The 3.2-megapixel camera ensures you can take snaps from your phone, and the LED flash means you are not restricted by lighting conditions. The camera on the front of the phone is handy if you like or need to make video calls; and the main camera has the ability to shoot videos too.
Activities wise, you can plan outings using the phone’s compass and
Google Maps as well as see how fast you are cycling, walking or running thanks to the GPS run and bike trackers pre-installed. The pedometer tells you how far you’ve walked, so you can merrily compete with your best time and distance if you wish, and the Puma services offer an array of sport-oriented options such as news. The Sagem Puma Phone comes with a decent music player and FM radio, which can be good for when you are exercising as well as travelling, relaxing or simply going about your business.
The interface is bright and enjoyable – for example, the music player’s display is like the spinning face of an LP player – and the range of icons across the 3 home screens (favourites, sport and lifestyle) keep you in touch, motivated and entertained. We hope to add to this review shortly so check back to find out more about the Sagem Puma Phone.
