Just as the Android is taking the smartphone community by storm, Sony Ericsson regales the community with what might just be the flagship of the Symbian world – its Vivaz smartphone. But its gets better as the Japanese/Swedish mobile phone maverick makes a pitch to a market niche that is sure to be delighted with a full-QWERTY slider version in the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro.
Vivaz Features on a Slider Body
Measuring 109 x 52 x 15mm and weighing 117g, lighter than most other full QWERTY sliders out there, the Vivaz Pro looks every inch like the Vivaz when closed, just thicker.
But unlike it, the Pro version only comes in Black and white body colors. Its body dimensions accommodate a 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen display with Wide-VGA (640 x 360) resolution and 16 million colors typical of Symbian smartphones. It comes with a gravity accelerometer for auto rotate viewing in either landscape or portrait orientation and turn-to-mute feature to snooze its alarm. The screen also gets a scratch resistant surface.
Beneath its elegant exterior is a 720 MHz processor with PowerVR SGX graphics accelerator to run the Symbian OS with S60 5th edition user interface. The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro gets a social networking prowess with Facebook and Twitter integration as well as media file sharing integration with YouTube and Picasa.
Its camera gets a 5-megapixel resolution with autofocus, LED Flash, touch focus, face/smile detection and geo-tagging from its GPS receiver. What stands out in its imaging munitions is the cutting edge high definition 720p video recording at 24fps frame rates that gets continuous autofocus and video light.
The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro inherits the Sony Walkman pedigree for entertainment with stereo FM receiver with RDS and the capable media playback for music in the MP3, WMA, WAV and eAAC audio file formats as well as video playback for MP4, H.263 and H.264 video codecs.
There’s the signature TrackID app for music recognition and also comes with TV out in the VGA resolution as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired stereo listening. But you go wireless as well with its A2DP support for stereo Bluetooth earphones.
The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro is your 3G phone on the dual band UMTS with HSDPA/HSUPA data connectivity as well as a quad band GSM with class 10 GPRS/EDGE on 2G. Local data connectivity starts with its WiFi 802.11b/g with DLNA for hotspot internet surfing support and data transfers and syncing gets Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB 2.0 for wireless and wired options, respectively.
It comes with SatNav functionality from its integrated GPS receiver with A-GPS and gets assisted with preloaded
Google Maps. There’s also the WisePilot navigation for voiced turn-by-turn navigation.
The onboard storage gets a small but respectable 75 MB expandable to 16 GB from its microSD external memory expansion slot. It even comes with a free 8 GB microSD cards in its retail package. Its 1200 mAh Lithium-polymer battery powers the handset with one of the most generous talk times in the industry with 12.5 hours when fully charged.
